Wilma L. Sheets, 88, Altus, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 pm, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 4 miles south of Amarillo, Texas. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Wilma Lois Higgins was born January 28, 1924 to Albert Sidney and Salla (Jackson) Higgins at Hereford, Texas. Wilma graduated from Hereford High School and then attended Abilene Christian College for two years. She continued her education at West Texas State University at Canyon, Texas, graduating in 1945. Wilma began her teaching career at Portales, New Mexico, where she taught English and Spanish for about one year. She then moved to Texline, Texas with her family, where she met and married Ernest D. Sheets, on October 3, 1947. To this union three children were born. The Sheets made their home in Texline where she continued teaching until she retired in the mid 1970’s. Wilma was very active in the Texline Community, volunteering at the VFW Auxiliary as well as the American Cancer Society. She taught Sunday school and was always active in the church. She belonged to the Elm & Hudson Church of Christ in Altus. She worked hard as a teacher and a farmer’s wife, as well as a very dedicated mother and grandmother. Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Garland, Noel, Howard and Clyde, and one sister, Hazel. She is survived by her husband Ernest; one daughter, Judy Pringle and her husband, Ray, of Lubbock, TX; two sons, Bob Sheets and wife, Vanna, of Amarillo, TX, and Dr. Randy Sheets and wife, Debra, of Altus, OK; six grandchildren, Alison Tamplin and husband, Daren, of West Palm Beach, FL, Lauren Prater and husband, Michael, of Memphis, TN, Jason Pringle of McKinney, TX, Megan Driskill and husband, Cory of Abilene, TX, Jennifer House and husband, Yancey, of Abilene, TX, and Jeff Sheets and wife, Elena, of Lubbock, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Abel, Solon, Emmett, Mallory, Cooper, Addison, Ansley, Grant and Aiden. The Sheets family will greet friends Friday, August 24 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Kincannon Gathering Room. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at
