The last curtain call for Wilson Thomas “Tom” Matthias, age 54, of Altus, Oklahoma, was on October 12, 2022 at Integris Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City, where he was surrounded by his loving family. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on Sunday, October 30, 2022 in the Centennial Memorial Chapel at the Altus City Cemetery. Cremation services have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Tom was born in Okinawa to Hiroko Ota Matthias and Edwin Thomas Matthias on July 26, 1968. He was the baby brother who joined his three sisters. Born into a military family, he lived all over the US, including Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Tom graduated from Altus High School in 1986. After high school, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1990 from Oklahoma State University where he was involved with Phi Kappa Beta. He was also certified in the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Technologist in Microbiology. Tom worked in several laboratories in the Dallas, TX area for over 30 years including the Laboratory Corporation of America.
If you knew Tom, you knew he loved the movies and everything they entail, including the Oscars. He kept up on the nominations and oftentimes tried to watch all nominated movies before the big night. Tom did not discriminate though; family members often laugh at some of the movie suggestions that he would give. Tom was always up to play a game with the family, whether it was board games, cards, or video games. Tom also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and sadly leaves behind Tobe and Ziggy.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Hiroko Ota Matthias and father, Edwin Thomas Matthias; and his grandparents, Koei and Kazu Ota and Wilson and Ruth Matthias. Tom will forever be missed by his three sisters, Ruth Davis and husband, Brian, of Stillwater, Mary Rogers and husband, Jimmy, of Altus, and Janet Asbill and husband, Steve, of Grapevine, TX; five nieces and a nephew, Samantha Davis, Christie Rogers, Brianna Peterson and husband, Caleb, Chelsea Vasquez and husband, Josh, Aaron Rogers and wife, Crystal, and Adriana Asbill; eight grandnieces and nephews, Romelle, Ryan, Alexis, Oakleigh, Marlo, Braxton, Mikel, and Remi, and one great grandniece, Alaia; honorary sister, Rhonda Guy, and numerous extended family and friends.
